“The smallest sprout shows there is really no death,
And if ever there was it led forward life,
And does not wait at the end to arrest it,
And ceas'd the moment life appear'd.
All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses...”
Inspired by the natural world and the processes of ecological regeneration, this print work explores stories of death and rebirth. Identity and the tenuous connection to family and place are investigated through the visual metaphors of growth and decay. The process of layering imagery—through printing, sewing, adhering—and making some areas translucent or opaque—using thin handmade papers and wax—allowed me both to complicate and to find clarity, to reveal and to hide.
